Sporting Kansas City V Colorado Rapids Armas Hails Visitors Professionalism

Sporting Kansas City v Colorado Rapids: Armas hails visitors’ professionalism

SKC manager impressed with Rapids’ display despite defeat

Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes hailed the professionalism of the Colorado Rapids after his side’s 2-1 victory on Saturday. The Rapids were without a number of key players due to international duty and injuries, but they put in a spirited performance against a strong Sporting KC side.

Rapids showed great character

“I thought the Rapids showed great character tonight,” said Vermes. “They were missing some important players, but they didn’t let that affect their performance. They played hard for each other and made it very difficult for us to break them down.”

The Rapids took the lead in the first half through a Diego Rubio penalty, but Sporting KC came back to win the game with goals from Johnny Russell and Khiry Shelton. Despite the defeat, Vermes was impressed with what he saw from the Rapids.

Rapids have a bright future

“I think the Rapids have a bright future,” said Vermes. “They have a lot of young players who are starting to come into their own. I’m sure they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.”
