What MSU Football Coach Mel Tucker Has Noticed About New Recruiting Region

Michigan State's Mel Tucker Viewing Georgia as New Recruiting Hotbed

Tucker: Prospects in Georgia 'Really Talented'

Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker is casting a wider net in his search for talent, and one area that has caught his eye is the state of Georgia.

Tucker, who is entering his fourth season with the Spartans, has already made a number of inroads in the Peach State, offering scholarships to several top prospects in the 2023 and 2024 classes.

Tucker said he has been impressed with the talent level in Georgia, which has produced some of the nation's top players in recent years.

"The prospects in Georgia are really talented," Tucker said. "They're big, they're fast, and they're athletic. We're excited about the opportunity to recruit in Georgia and we think we can find some great players there."

Tucker's Success in Georgia So Far

Tucker has already had some success in recruiting Georgia, landing commitments from four-star defensive end Shemar Stewart and three-star offensive tackle Donovan Green in the 2023 class.

Tucker is also targeting several other top prospects in Georgia, including five-star defensive end David Bailey and four-star quarterback Jake Garcia.

Why Georgia is a Recruiting Hotbed

There are a number of reasons why Georgia has become a recruiting hotbed in recent years.

First, the state has a large population of high school football players. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, Georgia has the fourth-most high school football players in the country.

Second, Georgia has a strong tradition of football success. The state is home to two of the nation's top college football programs, the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama.

Third, Georgia has a number of talented high school football coaches. Many of these coaches have played college football and have a wealth of experience developing players.

Tucker's Vision for MSU Football

Tucker is hoping to build Michigan State into a national championship contender, and he believes that recruiting Georgia will be a key part of that process.

"We want to be the best team in the country," Tucker said. "And we believe that we can do that by recruiting the best players in the country. We're excited about the opportunity to recruit in Georgia and we think we can find some great players there who can help us achieve our goals."
